How to Spot Toxic People

The most dangerous quality of toxic people is that they rarely reveal themselves all at once. The toxicity creeps in slowly — a small criticism here, a guilt trip there — until it becomes the norm.

Common signs:

They make everything about them. Your problems become a launching pad for their stories. Your wins feel threatening to them. - They gaslight. They deny things that happened, make you question your memory, or insist your feelings are overreactions. - They use guilt as leverage. "After everything I've done for you…" is a classic opener. - They're never wrong. Every conflict ends with you apologizing. Their behavior is always your fault. - You feel drained after interactions. This is the most reliable signal. Healthy relationships energize you; toxic ones deplete you.

The tricky part: toxic people are often charming and fun in short bursts. It's the pattern over time that reveals the truth. Trust the pattern, not the exceptions.
